Microphone shutter tester
Audio Shutter Timing
This tool records the sound of a camera shutter, finds the two click peaks, and lets you measure the time between them on a high-resolution waveform.
Capture
Put the microphone close to the camera, press Record, fire the shutter, then stop. The app asks the browser for the highest practical sample rate and keeps the full recording.
Measure
Drag on the waveform to place A and B cursors. The automatic estimate is a starting point; your manual cursor placement controls the final shutter speed readout.
Navigate
Mouse wheel zooms, right-drag pans, and the small overview strip shows which part of the full recording is visible. Drag the overview to move the window.
Playback
Play listens to the visible waveform only. Use the speed control to slow playback from 100% down to 1/32 for checking clicks by ear.
Accuracy note
Audio is noisy: microphone response, echoes, browser resampling, distance, and the shape of the shutter sound all add uncertainty. This can be very useful for comparing and adjusting shutters, but it will never be exact. Record several tries and look for consistent results.
